Protect Long Island: A New York State 501 (c) (4) Not for Profit
To advocate for the adoption and implementation of pro-active measures that will protect Long Island from catastrophic storm surges; and to initiate, sponsor, aid and assist the formulation of programs that will stimulate public and governmental interest in this cause.
Advocacy shall include the following components:
Increase general public understanding of the protective function of barrier beaches.
Discuss and disseminate information and data on the likely consequences of inaction.
Increase general public understanding of importance of economy of South Shore communities to the economies of Nassau and Suffolk County. Study consequences of possible “retreat” on property values and tax revenue. Encourage local governments to conduct comprehensive study of these issues.
Mobilization: (Through print and social media)
Provide a vehicle for stake holder groups to share information, pool resources and speak with a united voice. Ensure that needs of Long Island are not overlooked.
Make direct appeal to all branches of government and relevant agencies for expedited approvals / authorizations and funding of recommended pro-active measure.
